Oakland International set great example how to treat visiting HGV drivers

Golden Acre and Oakland International have gone above and beyond to support visiting HGV drivers with free food packs made available and making sure a dedicated toilet block is made available.

Since the Covid-19 outbreak many delivery drivers have been refused access to toilet facilities at delivery points and are finding it extremely hard to find anywhere to eat and shower due to services closing during the outbreak of Coronavirus.

More needs to be done by the government to make sure HGV drivers have access to toilets and wash facilities so they can maintain good hygiene standards and perform essential transport during this crisis.

We are reaching out to companies and supermarkets to follow Oakland Internationals example and please make your facilities available for visiting HGV drivers.

Many drivers have to live and sleep in their HGV all week. Stopping drivers from basic hygiene is not going to help anyone and put extra pressure on drivers and transport companies as the Coronavirus is set to peak in the next few weeks.

Denying access to toilets for visiting drivers is breaking the Health & Safety law;

The HSE quote "There is a legal requirement to provide visiting delivery drivers with access to toilets and washing facilities under the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992.”

More information on the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992 can be found at https://www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/books/l24.htm

You can report blocked access at sites to the HSE at Reporting a workplace health and safety problem.
