Job description

What’s the role?

As our shunter you will be presenting trailers that are legally compliant and to the correct standard for use. Positioning equipment on and off trailer bays as required and ensuring the yard area is maintained in a clean, safe and organised condition.

What will I be responsible for?

Liaise with warehouse / transport personnel to ensure the correct equipment is positioned on and off the trailer bays, ensuring the flow is maintained, informing the Transport Manager when equipment shortage will affect loading
Complete a pre-loading check prior to putting the trailer on a bay. Including: Defects, service/MOT/LOLER requirements, equipment correctly prepared for loading
Transfer trailers between agreed site location – this may involve traveling on public highways within 1.5km of base depot
Carry out full yard checks, completing all required documentation
Follow site and business Health and Safety / Safe Systems of work policies
Carry out additional operational duties as required by your Transport Manager, this may include supporting other local sites or using the site winter equipment i.e. Yard Gritter or Snow Plough
Building up of equipment on site where required to ensure smooth flow of equipment is maintained
Direct incoming equipment and vehicles to the correct parking / loading area(s)
Follow current VOR process, liaising with relevant personnel where necessary
Assist with any yard / trailer related queries

What kind of person are you looking for?

Due to the nature of the role we are looking for someone with relative experience of shunting articulated vehicles in a transport traffic office. A valid LGV Class 1 driving licence is essential. You will be an extremely self-motivated individual who can work with minimal supervision.

You will need to be used to problem solving in your previous roles and have experience looking after a transport operation including customer requirements and managing resources.

Practical computer experience using Transport Systems and Microsoft Office packages, e.g. Word, Excel and Outlook would be essential.
