Wincanton Professional Driver programme

The 12 months training you undertake will cover everything from your medical to getting your category C and C + E licences. You will start your Wincanton journey working in one of our warehouses whilst you complete your Driver training programme.

During your training you will be supporting our team at Wickes working as a Diver's Mate.

About the role:

Our Drivers’ Mates are a key part of the customer experience, you will be delivering Kitchen and Bathroom products as part of a two-person crew throughout your region. We want to develop our talent and create the Drivers of the future – that’s why we will fund your training, test and licence while you work for Wincanton.

Customer service is at the heart of what we do and we are looking for people who enjoy working with others and like a varied role as no two shifts are ever the same!

On successful completion of your Driving tests (approximately 4-6 months after you started) you will be able to start driving and take one of our many Driver positions.

The apprenticeship includes licence acquisition training for Cat C or C+E LGVs and is delivered through a blended combination of on the job tuition plus off the job master classes, workshops, e-learning content and professional discussions. Additional training may be included to ensure you are fully compliant and safe.

This role is hands on, it involves heavy lifting/ handling and is full of variety. It is therefore essential that the successful applicant is capable to carry out this nature of work.

Please be aware that every employee must have a satisfactory criminal record check (DBS) every three years and that job offers are subject to a check which will be carried out by a third party.

You’ll need:

  • Customer service experience
  • Outstanding communication skills targeted at handling customers face to face and over the phone
  • Exceptional time management, working to tight deadlines
  • Capable of working well under pressure
  • Ability to multitask and problem solve
  • Great attention to detail
  • Team player

Entry Requirements and Selection process

  • Right to work in the UK
  • Car Driving Licence
  • Be 18 years old or over
  • Be a resident in the UK or EEA for three years

Our selection process

  • You will need to complete an online application form which includes eligibility questions. If successful, you will then be required to complete an online hazard perception assessment.
  • Following on from that the final stage will be an Interview.
